Introducing Sign in with Google on Colombia Move

We just shipped one of those small features that makes a surprisingly large difference: you can now sign in to Colombia Move with your Google account. Two clicks and you're in — no typing an email, no waiting for a magic link to show up, no checking your spam folder. If you've ever bounced off a signup form because you couldn't be bothered to switch to your email app, this is for you.

Email magic link still works exactly as it did before. This isn't a replacement, it's an addition. Whichever method you pick, you land in the same account with the same data. We'll get into the details below.

Why we built this

Our original sign-in flow was simple: type your email, we send you a magic link, you click the link, you're in. No passwords, no account recovery drama. It's a clean flow and it still works for a lot of people.

But there are real costs. Email deliverability is unreliable — magic links sometimes land in Promotions or Spam, especially for Gmail users. Mobile users have to switch between three apps (browser → email → browser again) to complete a single sign-in. And some people simply don't check email often, or they share their email with a partner, or they've forgotten which account they used.

Google Sign-In removes every one of those friction points. The user taps a button, picks their Google account from a popup, and they're authenticated. On desktop the popup is instant. On mobile the flow adapts automatically — we use a redirect instead of a popup because popups are unreliable in mobile browsers, especially inside in-app browsers like WhatsApp or Instagram. Either way, the whole thing takes about two seconds from click to logged in.

How to use it

Visit the new login page at colombiamove.com/login. You'll see two options: a blue "Continue with Google" button, and below it a familiar email field for the magic link flow. Click the Google button, pick your account, done. If this is your first time, we create your account automatically with the name and profile picture from Google — you won't have to fill out a signup form.

We only ask Google for the minimum information needed to create your account: your verified email address, your public name, and your public profile picture. We don't see your Gmail, your Drive, your contacts, your calendar, or anything else. You can revoke our access any time from your Google Account settings.

Privacy and security

Google Sign-In passed Google's brand verification process, which means our app, logo, privacy policy, and domain ownership have all been checked by Google. When you see the consent screen, you'll notice there's no "unverified app" warning — that green checkmark matters because it means Google has confirmed we're who we say we are.

We updated our privacy policy to explicitly cover what data we receive from Google and how we use it. The short version: nothing changes beyond what we already collect when you sign up with email, and we never share your Google data with third parties.

Already have an account?

If you signed up previously with your Gmail address using the magic link, signing in with Google will find your existing account automatically. We match by email. Your listings, messages, saved searches, profile — everything stays exactly where it is. No duplicate account, no migration needed, no data loss.

The reverse also works. If you want to switch back to email magic links later, just use the email field on the login page. Both methods work for the same account forever.

Publishing a listing? Even faster now

When you visit the Publicar page to post a new listing, you'll see the Google button right above the email field. If you sign in with Google while filling out your listing, your email gets auto-added as a contact method on step 2 — you don't have to re-enter anything, and the form picks up where you left off. The old email-first flow still works if you prefer it, and localStorage preserves your draft if you navigate away and come back.
