We Just Added Bitcoin Lightning Payments β€” A First for Colombia

We just became the first jobs and classifieds platform in Colombia to accept Bitcoin Lightning payments. Scan a QR, pay in 3 seconds, listing featured instantly.

Bitcoin Lightning payments now live on Colombia Move classifieds and jobs platform

We just became the first jobs and classifieds platform in Colombia to accept Bitcoin Lightning payments. Not as a gimmick. Not through some clunky third-party checkout. A real, native Lightning integration where you scan a QR code, your wallet confirms in under 3 seconds, and your listing is featured instantly.

If you've been looking for a reason to actually use Lightning for something other than tipping on Twitter β€” this is it.

What We Built and Why

Colombia Move runs a free jobs board and classifieds marketplace. Anyone can post a listing for free. But if you want your listing to stand out β€” appear first in search results, get a featured badge, show up on the homepage β€” you can pay to feature it.

We already accepted credit cards (via Wompi, Colombia's payment processor) and PayPal. But we kept running into the same friction: Colombian payment methods don't work for everyone, PayPal charges high fees, and crypto payment processors like NOWPayments have minimum amounts that make small transactions impossible.

Lightning solves all of that. No minimums. Near-zero fees. Instant confirmation. And it works for anyone with a Lightning wallet β€” whether you're in Medellin, Miami, or Mumbai.

How It Works

The experience is dead simple:

1. Post a free listing on our jobs board or classifieds (takes about 60 seconds).

2. On your listing page or in your Ad Management dashboard, click 'Feature my listing.'

3. Pick your plan β€” 7, 14, or 21 days. Prices start around $5 USD equivalent.

4. Click the ⚑ Lightning button.

5. A QR code appears. Scan it with any Lightning wallet β€” Strike, Muun, Phoenix, Wallet of Satoshi, BlueWallet, whatever you use.

6. Payment confirms in 2-3 seconds. Your listing is immediately featured with a gold badge, sorted to the top of search results.

Scan, pay, done β€” under 3 seconds

No account creation on a payment processor. No entering card numbers. No waiting for bank confirmations. You scan, you pay, it's done.

Why Lightning Instead of Regular Bitcoin

Regular Bitcoin transactions take 10-60 minutes to confirm and cost $1-5 in network fees. That makes no sense for a $5 payment. Lightning is Bitcoin's second layer β€” it settles instantly and fees are fractions of a cent. It's the difference between sending a wire transfer and tapping your phone.

We use Strike's API on the backend, which means payments settle to USD instantly. No price volatility risk for us or for you β€” the price you see is the price you pay.

Why This Matters for Colombia

Colombia has a weird payment landscape. Lots of people have bank accounts but the cards don't always work online. PSE (bank transfers) is great but only works for Colombian banks. PayPal exists but charges absurd fees. And a growing number of digital nomads and remote workers here use Bitcoin daily but have nowhere to spend it locally.

Lightning bridges all of these gaps. It doesn't care what country you're from, what bank you use, or whether you have a credit card. If you have sats, you can feature your listing.

We believe we're the first classifieds or jobs platform in Colombia β€” and possibly in Latin America β€” to offer native Lightning payments. If we're wrong, show us who did it first. We'd love to meet them.

What You Can Feature

Our platform covers two main areas:

Jobs and Services (colombiamove.com) β€” post jobs, find freelancers, offer services. Categories include tech, marketing, education, plumbing, electrical, translation, and more.

Classifieds (colombiamove.com) β€” buy, sell, and rent apartments, electronics, vehicles, furniture, pets, and clothing across Colombia.

Both platforms are completely free to use. Featuring a listing is optional β€” it just gives you more visibility. And now you can pay for that visibility with Lightning.

⚑ Try It Right Now

Post a listing on our jobs or classifieds board and feature it with Bitcoin Lightning. The whole process takes under 60 seconds.

The Technical Details (For the Nerds)

We built this with Strike's API. When you click the Lightning button, our server creates a Strike invoice denominated in USD, then generates a Lightning quote (bolt11 invoice) on demand. The quote is displayed as a QR code. When you pay, Strike sends a webhook to our server, which verifies the payment and instantly updates your listing's featured status in our PostgreSQL database.

The quote refreshes automatically if it expires before you scan β€” just click the refresh button to get a new one. The underlying invoice stays the same, so there's no risk of double-payment.

We also accept Wompi (Colombian cards, PSE, Nequi, Bancolombia) and PayPal alongside Lightning. Users pick whichever method works best for them.

What's Next

We're exploring a few ideas: Lightning-powered tips for service providers listed on the platform, instant payouts to freelancers via Lightning, and possibly a Lightning-native escrow system for classifieds transactions. If any of this excites you, we'd love to hear from you.

❓ FAQ

❓ Do I need a Strike account to pay with Lightning?

No. Any Lightning wallet works β€” Strike, Muun, Phoenix, Wallet of Satoshi, BlueWallet, Cash App, or any other wallet that supports Lightning invoices. You just scan the QR code.

❓ What if my Lightning payment fails or the invoice expires?

If the invoice expires before you scan, click the refresh button to generate a new one. If payment fails for any reason, nothing is charged and you can try again. The system is idempotent β€” you can't accidentally pay twice for the same feature.

❓ Is the price in Bitcoin or USD?

Prices are displayed in Colombian pesos (COP) with the USD equivalent shown. The Lightning invoice is denominated in USD and your wallet converts automatically. You pay the equivalent in sats at the current exchange rate.

❓ How fast is the confirmation?

Typically 2-3 seconds. Your listing is featured the moment the payment confirms β€” no waiting for block confirmations like on-chain Bitcoin.
